The Benefits of Crocheting

So many people are closed minded about a number of things. Recently I discovered a person very closed minded about crocheting. The person stated that while they never tried crochet it wasn't their thing. To me, that is so closed minded that it sounds silly.

It's a new year and that means it's time to try new things! There is no better time than now to try something new and actually be able to say you tried it and then you don't like it. Instead of being like the person I discovered... try something before you say it's not for you.

Below you will find some great reasons and benefits of trying crochet. It's an amazing craft and is really worth a try!

10 Reasons and Benefits to try Crochet

1. It's quick to learn. There are 3 basic stitches and they all are very similar. The main three stitches are Single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. All three are fairly similar and require the hook to be held the same way. The only different is the yarn over and how many times you pull the yarn through. The combination of these three basic stitches makes up for a number of unique patterns. In addition as a crocheter grows with experience they can expand to stitches such as the picot, the double treble crochet as well as many more. It's stated that crocheting has more than 20 different stitches that can be used a number of ways to create a ton of unique items.

2. The supplies are limited and fairly cheap. Yarn and a hook is all that is needed. You can find a hook at walmart for under $3 and yarn as well for the same price. Plus because crochet and knitting is generally for an order generation it's possible to find cheap crochet supplies at yarn sales and thrift stores.

3. Technically crocheting is easier to learn than knitting. But this applies if you don't know both. It's easier because of the size of the hook. Hooks are much shorter than knitting. In addition it's also easier because it's one thing to manager inside of two things.

4. No risk of stabbing unlike with knitting. It's very easy to hurt yourself or someone with knitting needles. Many times I would have knitting needles in my bag and they would poke me hard with every step I made.

5. Easy for on the go projects. ( knitting needles are large and hard to store in a small purse.) It's hard to find on the go knitting projects because generally the needles need to be long. I've had a complete crocheted afghan in my purse at times.

6. You can make anything from doilies to afghans AND with the same hook! Yes, it's true there are afghans that are made with tiny hooks and doilies made with big hooks. The fun it there is no size limit to what you can do with a hook.

7. Fast projects are a specialty of crocheting. From scarfs to socks to cute little ducks you can make anything quick with crochet. And the best part it doesn't matter if you are new to crocheting or not. The projects for fast patterns are easy and quick and perfect for beginners.

8. The ability to come up with your own patterns is quick and easy. The ratio of a pattern is always the same. You can edit a pattern in minutes with a bit of planning and some testing.

9. Two words... Granny Squares!- Knitting doesn't have granny squares. There are squares in knitting but nothing like granny squares. Not only can you make squares but you can also make circles, hexagons and octagons and even triangles!

10. Simply because it's a relaxing de-stressing craft that requires only three things ... Yarn, Hook and Time. It's a nice simple craft that once you get it, you've got it for life. It can quickly become addicting because of how easy it is to do and take along with you.

If you've never tried crochet.. why not try it this year? Seriously.. I feel that God blessed me by meeting a woman that crocheted and having her teach my uncle and him teach me. I have built a company around my love for crochet. God Blessed me with a gift that I like to spread and show to people. Try crochet.. You don't be sorry... I know I'm not.
